Called to Science

Why we made this podcast

Being a scientist is not easy. It takes dedication, curiosity, and resilience. Behind every discovery are countless failed experiments, moments of doubt, and often the challenge of moving across countries to follow the science. At VIB, we know that this environment pushes people to grow, but it can also test their limits.

That’s why we created this podcast: to talk about the people behind the research. What drives them, how they found their path, how they unwind after a long day, and what keeps them going when things get tough. VIB is full of extraordinary, passionate scientists with stories worth sharing. Through Called to Science, we want to celebrate them and remind everyone in science that they’re not alone in their struggles or their dreams.

The third season features five new researchers whose paths into science are anything but straightforward. Think a lifelong promise shaped by personal loss, a journey from first-generation student to grant expert, what it takes to be an expert, and careers that cross continents, disciplines, and even worlds, from the lab bench to European policy.

For those who are Called to Science, this podcast is for you!
